Everyone seems to be focused on the Nabucco pipeline, but what about the imminent threat of snack crackers? I'm speaking, of course, about the 1-2 flavor punch of salt, sweet and fat in Chips Ahoy! chocolate cookies. Or how about the ostensibly well-meaning fruity squish of Fig Newtons? Without mentioning, of course, Triscuits, Wheat Thins, Cheese Nips, Nutter Butters, Nilla Wafers, Ritz Bits and Teddy Grahams.

The author, Mr. Nikitin, is of course right about Mr. Fischer. But he has failed to identify the principal tactic being employed here: misdirection. While we are all focused on some silly irrelevant oil pipeline running through Turkey, the world is being smothered in delicious trans fats and irresistable chewy chunks. Oh bother, I can't finish this, I'm hungry.

As a point of interest, the anti-spam test word that appeared at the bottom of this page--the cryptic word that I was forced to type in order to be allowed to comment--was "Jintao." Coincidence? I think not.

Hmmm.... they say that they are going to get gas from Azerbaijan, Iraq and possibly Turkmenistan, which would be more than enough. And I don't think it would be marginalising all that much- Russia serves Europe 25% of its gas already: this would put a dent in that but still Russia would remain a key supplier. It's good politics and economics to have a diversity of supply. And it isn't just Ukraine that has had gas disputes: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4587598.stm
